First german team to ever win an international CPL event

Europe, 3rd of May, 2005 – The BenQ backed Counterstrike team, Mousesports, trounced the competition at the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) Championships which took place this weekend in Barcelona (29 April-1 May), making history as the first German team ever to win an international event of this kind.
The Mousesports team, led by team founder Yilmaz Ocan, dominated the world’s best Counterstrike teams without losing a game throughout the three-day competition.

Team member Christian “Blizzard” Chmiel said: “We didn’t expect to get such a great result at this event as we had had some problems over the last few weeks at the German Championships. But every player of our team did a great job and we are absolutely delighted to be the first German Counterstrike team in history to win at a world class CPL event.
We can’t stop smiling!”



Mousesports won US$10,000 for the best Counterstrike team of the Championships.
The next big challenge for the Mousesports team is the ‘Leaving the reality - X-treme’ event that takes place in Frankfurt an der Oder from May, 13th –15th ,2005 where they hope to qualify for the Electronic Sports World Games in France (www.esworldcup.com).

The Catz team, one of the best female Counterstrike teams in Europe, also backed by BenQ, came third at the CPL World Tour Stop in Barcelona.

The CPL World Tour is the first-ever, year-long competitive tour for the growing sport of video game competitions. International teams compete in a series of events hosted in selected countries around the world. A World Tour Stop takes place each month and will conclude with a Championships Finals Event.
